Fine colors, fine idea, there is something wrong with the hilt, look at the shadow, the guard dont match the hilt. GL.
I really like your model (based on your SBS), but the end result has some softening or blurring filter that ruins the possible finer details. I agree with "billyboy" about the hilt. It looks roughly painted on in Photoshop. The blade has some weird edgy shadow (try using Radiosity or something).

If you're using the light source in your 3D program, the original shadow is correct. Looks like you drew one in because there wasn't on in the first place. There wasn't one because the angle of your light source doesn't cause a shadow to be there. You should just eliminate that shadow all together. See, the light is coming from above the camera. It's brighter on this side of the sword than the other. It's the same angle as the hilt almost. So there wouldn't be a shadow there. Trust your 3D program light source.

call me picky but I think if the contest is to make a sword, the whole sword should show. good job though
