Nice concept, but this entry could be so much better if you can produce a better render. not sure how your software works for that, I use c4d. But if its similar I would suggest increasing the resolution to 300dpi. Also I think a target light focused on the USB and placed above and too the right would be a better set up, perhaps if it were to be set on hard shadows also.
I really like your entry. Great idea, but if you don't mind the render time, you should go to mental ray under the common tab common and change the resolution to at least HD 720. Also if you go to the side view, make sure that your model touches the floor in your scene. Using blinns instead of lamberts for your metal areas can help with the realism or your metal. i have a bunch of tutorials on the hypershade menu if you would like to learn. keep at it you are on the right path....
very nice idea author...good luck
Good start, author, for the design. I wish the 'inner workings' from your Step 4 still show, that part is good. Not sure what the 'bell' thingies are, but they'd look great in brass - try removing the two side ones and have some steam coming from the bottom one, just a thought.
The three gears showing are great, too. Try changing the material of the cap to wood. Keep at it, tho, nice work overall.
