This is almost perfect! Amazing Render. I just have the feeling it's a bit stretched out vertically.

This is almost perfect! Amazing Render. I just have the feeling it's a bit stretched out vertically.
I'm sorry to say this and I really am sorry if I'm wrong but, this to me after some revising of the both photographs looks fake.. meaning you took the original photo and just made a simple sbs..
I just looked at your sbs and it seems you did do the modeling but you sort of overlayed the original photograph onto your model.. and I'm not sure if thats allowed is it? I mean it sort of cheating isn't it?
I guess your right I wasnt even aware of a technique like this but to me it just seems pointless what you've done.. because it's just identical, but only because you used the actual photo as a texture, i think the whole theme in here is to yes, copy the image but using your own textures. Anyway well see if the mods have a problem with it either way good luck and sorry if i sounded like bitchy or something :P
I understand it is annoying if you see an entry that you do not know how it is done, but the oppotunity to learn is there. If it is as simple as you make out thenhave a go it is an open contest that is about 3d and all its tricks and skills not about searching the web for matching pre made textures and shaders. If it is on theme I will write a tutorial as this is one of the most commonly used ways to texture VFX shots.
Thanks
Wow, who needs a camera.
Excellent work, great texturing.
thanks everybody
Good thinking out or the box..
Great job I did 'lol' at the cheat remark... Understanding the baking process on its own is a process the author has had to learn - so to call a cheat or imply that this is simple to do is a little insulting. On another note - I would very much like to see a tutorial on this process as I haven't had the time to explore it. GL author, a clear win from me.
@ mirjea I have uploaded as step 4 of SBS different angles. there are no diplacement maps because what you are seeing is texture in the colour channel. I am a little confused because I have not done anything wrong, in fact I have forfilled the brief of the contest may be a little to well and so am getting a lot of stick for doing my best to explain to people what is going on and show that I am not cheating.
I would like to point out the MODs seem to have no problem with it.
last comment i wouldn't want to be annoying. Though I think people who do not know what they are talking about being rude and accusatory is a little annoying, but hay better to be a lover than a hater eh!
Wow - photo realistic image. It's very close to what real life pencil is. Well done
Very nicely done, excellent job.
thanks
I'll admit you did a terrific job. Unfortunately, I don't buy it. At the end of the day, I'm still looking at your source image, not your geometry, texture, etc,.. You've cleverly found a loophole in the wording of this contest, as it doesn't state that you may not use the source, and for that you deserve 1st. Bravo. Bravo.
I must admit that although this is a new technique to me, I totally understand how it works. I also question wether this is valid or not in this competition.
I would like to hear from a MOD on this matter, for not only this contest, but contests that are still to come.
In my opinion when the contest description is asking to MIMIC a photo by means of "Background, lighting, shading, texture and obviously model etc" the entry should contain all of these but be recreated, thus it becomes a mimic, a recreation - not a duplication.
Does this scene have any light setup for example?... no.
Amazing!! Fantastic render! congrats!!
I don't know 3d, but this is sure as realistic as I have ever seen.
awsm render!! good luck author
Congrats, wonderful work

Really nice almost magical concept! Great kjob author! gl!
Author, the final look is indeed good but the contest is basically about the boat and this is the one thing you haven't demonstrated in your SBS. If you have made it with lines, then please show the stages since I myself have tried to model a paper boat from lines-it may look simple, but I know from that experience that it's far from easy. Hope to see that soon I'll reserve my vote till then.
I too would like to see that
Well I didn't really make a realistic model of the paper boat I created myself (irl), I only made it to look like it.
That doesn't matter, you need to show how you made your model.
An updated sbs will be up in a few minutes
Really nice 3d work, but the shadow on the left is way too dark. Ambient lighting as well as water reflections wouldn't have that cute boat dropping off into such darkness. Lighten it up a bit, and you have a great image!
Thanks MossyB, but we're past the deadline for this contest so I can't really do much about it. Although I was trying to create a wet paper look for the bottom, I didn't get the time to do it on this image. But I think the shadows kinda give the impression of wet paper as it is now.
It’s a cool idea and a nice image but dose not really fall in the (Model a boat with as much detail as possible Category) couple things for future reference or consideration
white light ( if there is such a thing) consist of the three primary colors red, green and blue so if “white light†is shining on your boat, then it is most likely to absorbs the blue light and green and red is reflected giving the boat a yellow tint more so in with the chosen background, plus you should see a little transparency as well.
Thanks Warlock.
With the daylight system, the color of the sun (light) changes colors automaticly and with the settings I used, the light had a yellow/orange tint. So if you open the image in photoshop you can see that the white color on the boat does have more yellowish color than the others. The outside of the boat also gets colors from the water.
Also, the contest also says "any kind of boat will do", which should include this paper boat inside the contest rules.
So it dose….bit contradictory would you say. What I will add is don’t completely rely on your application to do it for you, there will be times when it will not get it right, always good to have a sound knowledge base.
Great thinking...well done author...extra points for unique thinking...gl

No meshes used simple primitives and the colour and texture editor for apples and pear skins.

nice work
Beautiful! Looks almost real.
gud work
I really like the dimmer lighting here...good color choice too.
NICE
This looks really cool, but there's something about the shadows of the apple that's bugging me. Why would the shadows be different colors? One's kind of bluish while the other is greenish. Seems like different light intensity would change shade, not tint. And, if I imagine where one of the light sources is, the bluish one seems just a tiny bit big. I dunno. I could easily be wrong. It's still a cool picture. Good job!
Beautiful!
nice mood of light..gud work
nice choice of elements in this work. fruit and paper look great.
very nice

That's cute.
Very creative. I like the depth of the "waves," and the "wrinkled" background gives this a nice touch!
Every time I see this it reminds me of LittleBigPlanet
love the concept.... all the best
