ECOnomy - Working "Greener" - created by JustinRSA

ECOnomy - Working "Greener"

This is my first entry to a competition on this site. I hope you enjoy!

This is my concept building of the future. It incorporates many "green" features including maximizing the amount of windows on the outer skin so an to let as much sunlight in as possible. These glass panes also are sprayed with a UV receiver coating which allows them to generate solar energy to power the internal LED lighting at night.

Some of the glass panels also open automatically when the temperature inside the dome gets too high and as they are in a 360 degree radius and there are no internal walls, it allows for natural breeze to flow through the entire structure.

In the centre of the dome is an island, which is a relaxing spot for employees to take a break. It sits in a pool of water that is as deep as the dome is high. This functions as a water tank for collected rain water that flows into the receiver drains located around the base rim of the structure. This water is then used for toilets and showers etc, and is also sprayed into the air as a fine mist over the entire dome on hot days to cool down the ambient temperature inside.

A totally green, sustainable building that has almost 0% external energy requirements.

There is no parking structure and employees are required to walk, bike or take public transportation to get to work.

This realization of the building was made entirely in Cinema 4D with a few tweaks to color adjustment in Photoshop.

Your comments are much appreciated! I am still a beginner in the 3D world and would love some feedback. (5 years and 3003 days ago)

This is a very interesting render. The concept has a few questionable directions, mainly regarding heat and humidity. Even with some panels opening, it would seem the heat and humidity build up would be comparable to a gigantic greenhouse - especially sitting on all that water. Also, if there is no breeze, the heat build up would be even worse. Spraying non-potable water (also used for toilets and showers) into the air as mist would create potential health hazards, and would increase the humidity problems on hot days...

It is still a very interesting idea, and a good 3d render!

Hi MossyB - Yes I agree that the heat and humidity would be an issue, but I've tried to create some solutions with the glass panels and the water spray system. I could take some creative liberties and go so far as to say that the glass (which will be developed in the future) is a heat repulsive glass, that is also breathable in one direction - kind of like a cell that can breath out, but not let anything in (ie water etc). That would be a great invention eh? Breathable glass... not entirely too far off in my opinion.

Thanks for your kind words and look forward to more comments... yay!

ps... the water catchment tank filters and purifies the water harnessed... employees can go and take water from the pond and drink it as it is 100% clean and delicious.

Great concept and visual composition - in regards to the heating problem i'm sure they would get around to fitting a few cooling apparatus somewhere! Slap some fan units around the base and the air and heat wouldn't be a problem. all the same GL author

Great green concept and render, I like all the views of your structure. Well done, and welcome!

author says:

Thanks Pearlie,

I put in the different views to show that there is more to this structure than just whats on the outside. Glad you enjoyed seeing them, and thanks for the warm welcome
