Pretty cool work, you just entered this so i'm gonna get in quick and suggest that you size down those glasses, they look far to huge in comparison with the book. Other than that little fix, you've got a good piece.

The book is only 17 x 10,5 cm (open it is 22x17) and my glasses measures 15x17.
Nice job. Even though the surrounding landscape needs a bit of work to look realistic, I'm very impressed with your boat construction, especially steps 1 and 2 with the boat's ribs and double hull. Makes me wonder if you're a boatbuilder by trade.
author says:
No not at all I'm not a boat builder. I'm "only" an IM project manager and being responsible for the planning and registration software used in our factories. I find participating in these contests a great way to get rid off all my daily stress .
Coming to the contest entry, I have been focused on the boat and the reflection its creating in the water; and I have to admit that I'm at the moment not yet that familiar with Carrara that I get my background the way I would like.
Thinking about the four elements it will bring up with me somehow an association with live and death, next step in the creative process is how to visualize this Charon is in this a good basis throughout history. (5 years and 3378 days ago)
You haven't included in your SBS how you textured your objects to achieve the painterly look of this render. The material on Charon's arm also seems to have a mapping issue.
author says:
Hi Mad, yes you are right that the arm of Charon has a mapping issue, only I accepted this. When I solved the mapping problem of Charon became less appealing.
The painterly look of the background is achieved by adding the a terrain and slide this partly underneath the plane surface. This infinite plane has a multi channel shader with a blue transparent color and a waves bump setting. The waves amplitude & frequency setting is very low. In this way the shadow of the boat smoothly interacts with terrain underneath the water surface.
In the background there is a fog, in this fog I placed my transparent ghosts figures. I wanted to have my ghosts and the fog gently compete with each other to attract some the attention.
The clothing is a multi channel color shader with a bump texture setting.
The skin is a multi channel mixer with a blender value setting.
I will add the texture settings later this evening.
Colourful. Good work. Me think you go for different eyes for top mask. Rest all great. GL
author says:
You are right, the eyes left person they are sloppy. Seeing the rendering colours now again without all business stress around, I think there is too much red light influence. Lesson learned take another breath...
I'm giving higher marks for the simple idea that you didn't go 'menacing' or 'scary'. You avoided the trend and thought outside the box. Nice work, author!
Wouldn't mind seeing that on my street, or even in my house. There's something cute and pet-like about it. I like how it looks recycled out of junk. Although it does look a little bumbling, like it would knock things over with its flailing long arms LOL.

Alrighty, Sorry Author. I can't argue with the facts lol. Must just be a trick of the eye.
love how you distorted the writing seen through the glasses! Miss a bit of shadow underneath but other than that well done!
