This is a really great looking photograph, it is very well composed the focus spot on and the exposure is excellent. The bicycle with the broken tire/wheel really makes this photograph stand out.
I'd like to see you doing just that! It would be a great picture, but probably not much of an action shot except for when the daredevil falls flat on the pavement.
You are both right, When converting an image to black and white, there is more to it than just removing all the colours, default settings for conversion are seldom the best.
The selection and separation from the background is very well done.
