Of all his stock, this one is my favorite. I could just never figure out what to do with her. You did and you did it beautifully. Adding it to my favs. If I could add it twice, I would.
very nice piece of work !!! love how you've made spilling water ... GL!!!

Thanks everyone!
Derdevil, the water was the first thing I saw in my mind when I looked at the contest source, imagining "waves" from the curves of the power supply. It took a bit of work to make it look more organic in form, but I'm happy with the way it turned out, thank you for noticing!
Awesome Work!!! Love the SBS, certainly a teaching tool for me! I am learning as I go through experimentation and I don't have photoshop so this entry just amazed me. Then to see the SBS...all I can say is WOW! Good luck, truly a fantastic entry.
Appealing, but the slightly colorful background, particularly the pink roses, grabs my eye before the water maiden's muted tones.
author says:
Although the roses may grab your eye before the maiden, I doubt your attention stays there, since the maiden is in front of the roses...This then pulls your eyes to the maiden, her hair and the pouring water, which then makes your eye go to the circular pattern containing the source image, which is echoed in the water, directing your eye back to the background roses, and your eye begins the journey again...Notice that the pale roses (which match the maiden's dress) are at the bottom. The roses were deliberately rotated to place the colors that way...
That's the concept behind the composition, and why I selected the roses as well as the pink tones - to keep the focus from settling upon the maiden with the background as an afterthought.
U did great job author...with few minor tweaks this can be perfect...Mikael is right about upper right part and maybe u could use smudge tool to create few hairs that out of the hair line to achieve more natural and realistic look...also just an idea maybe u could create thing that Japanese woman do with the lipstick just in the middle of the lips...
I contemplated giving her the "full Geisha" makeup, with the snow white foundation, and Geisha "experience" shape (did you know that the size and shape - top, bottom, or both) signify the age and experience of the Geisha?), but felt that would be too far from the "ethnicity."
Hair is SUCH a complicated thing to chop well. Too smooth and it looks cut and paste...I gave her some loose hairs on the RH side, but the ones on the left just didn't look natural...I'll try again.
great job on the girl love it! It I want to be picky I see that the background looks a bit unnatural. First of all there aren't any shadows under the trees and secondly, more important in my point of view, the very closeup of the face does not allow the background to be in focus. It's unnatural to the human eye, if I look at somethin that close, I see the background out of focus.
author says:
It's an "HDR" (High Definition Resolution) shot, so the focus is the same near and far, and the photographer was using a strong umbrella reflector light, so the trees had no shadow...
I do appreciate your comments, thank you for taking the time to point these things out. I learn things I need to improve with every entry, thanks to fellow members like you!
uhm, HDR has nothing to do with the focus, it simply means bringing out details in the very dark and very light areas, thus producing an image with rich details in all light levels. Just for clarification.
author says:
Thanks for the clarification...
Don't deal with a sense of humor much, do ya? lol!
Pretty good , right side of the nostril is puffy and there is a lack of definition around the eye tear section.color is slightly washed out but I think I still like it. good luck.
Not bad, buggy seems to be missing a handle knob judging by the angle.
author says:
Actually, it's a side view of a handle that runs horizontally. There is also the slightest bit of a vertical along the left edge of the buggy basket. If you check the source photo (#1 in the list), you'll see that it's the angle of the photo.
Cool—which also describes the color palette referenced in your title. I think having the top brickwork being exactly in line with the top of the image and the bottom step perfectly parallel with the bottom edge of the image could be more compelling (i.e., in your face/"here I am". Given the clear falseness of the image, I might exaggerate the contrast and saturation a bit more.
author says:
Thank you, I vacillated with "how much fake is too much fake?" so it is nice to know that it is clear enough. I decided against going too stylized with a harsher contrast, although I did like the high contrast step in the SBS...

Yeah..cool thinking.
I think that the water was an especially subtle and creative use of the source image. This is a really wonderful piece of art!

Good job showing something recognizable from the source in an artistic way.
