I couldn't help but think of the old B&W portraits of movie stars when I saw the shallow depth of field on this photo.
Some people don't react to b&w too well, so comments requesting the colour version are most welcome.
Had to reduce image a bit, as original was almost 5MB.

Perfect!!!!
Good idea and well done result, the light direction is also pretty correct. Maaaaybe the hand could have done with a tiny bit softer edges, but that's a nitpick. Good luck!
excellent Tilt Shift
Thanks DanielaOwergoor, wazowski, Drivenslush for your compliments and well wishes...
@wazowski; yes I agree. I had the most trouble with the hand and monster. Barely met the deadline, so I had to stick with what I had.
@Drivenslush "Tilt shift" is 4 separate levels of blur, masked out over each other...I don't like the generic 'block' blur that is used by most.
cheers.
Great Work. I like your composition. Thanks for using my work also
Thanks bricef... very kind of you to comment.
Welcome to pxleyes... hope you are going to post some of your photos and enter some contests.
x3 imao, very nice!
Excellent work, nice color saturation for the "model effect". The soldiers still look like they're floating though, the ones aiming their rifles from up the hill, the soldiers on the level mown grass look solidly planted. One fix might be to add overlapping vegetation around their bases to give the illusion of touching the ground. Still, this one's my favourite.
Thanks for your comments lilybean2011, rsguetre, Nator... nice of you to take the time to type something.
@rsguetre... Yes, I agree. I had a real tough time trying to get the shadows on the marching doods and making them look grounded; I guess I was hoping the blur would help.
I don't know why I didn't think of cutting back the mask for grass on the others.
Cheers; I DO appreciate your critique
Congrats for the 1st place, galiano, really, really deserved!!
