Pxleyes Top 50 Photography Contest Pictures of August 2010

Another month of thrilling photography contests has ended! We’ve collected the 50 highest scoring entries from the Pxleyes photography contests that were active during the month August 2010… This list is ranked by the final scores of the entries.
The most spectacular pictures were submitted in the product ads, eye candy, weapons, land meets water and thorns contest. Contest goal:
It’s probably safe to say everyone has seen something like this before. People in a home selling off unwanted junk and clothes on their lawn, in their garage or even at a rented flea market lot. Capture your most artistic take on a yard sale. To be considered on theme, it must be obvious it is a private sale (shot from someone’s home or people sifting throu what looks like used items. No pro retail displace. This includes businesses that sell used items like Deseret Industries or The Salvation Army. Have fun and good Luck!

49. Side view


Contest goal:
Leaves come in all shapes, sizes, colors and designs. Enter your most artistic close-up shot of a leaf, or leaves. It doesn’t have to be a macro but there must be detail in the leaves (veins and texture) to be considered a close up shot. Good luck!

Contest goal:
Railings are found all over in our societies. They are seen outside schools, churches, graveyards as well as houses. Take some artistic shots of railings for us to enjoy. Other things can be in the shot, but the railings must be the prime focus of the image.

47. Dress Up


Contest goal:
Most of us can take a photo of someone looking right at the camera, but can you create a great image by taking a shot from behind? I’m not talking about people far away. I was thinking more along the lines of a portrait showing the back of their heads, not their faces. This is a type of portrait, so only one person in shot and no animals. Eyes, mouth and nose cannot be visible in the pics. Ears can be visible.

46. Dragon


Contest goal:
Show us your best photos of a weapon. Whether it is something as unsophisticated as a baseball bat or as elegant as a single shot revolver, it doesn’t matter as long as your photo conveys the murderous nature of your subject. The focus should not be a victim or bloody results, but the weapon itself and its potential. Good luck!

Sweeping landscapes or wide panoramas are very impressive. Your goal is to create a panoramic shot of two or more images to create a sweeping view. It is an enduring form of a stuffed animal across the United States, often comforting or entertaining children. We’re often concerned about having a roof over our heads. But for this contest, we want you to get outside and look at the roofs. Upload some artistic images of rooftops. Your subject can range from lowly cottages to towering skyscrapers, it’s up to you!

As photographers on this site we don’t often get the chance to do selective coloring except in a 1 vs. 1 contest or our albums. Here is a chance to showcase your selective coloring skills. For those who don’t know, selective coloring is the art of creating a black and white image and returning a portion of it to color. Often, it focuses on a single object within the composition to emphasize it and/or enhance drama. PS Elements, PS and gimp (free) among other editing programs will allow you to achieve this look. Selective coloring will be the only (forbidden) technique allowed here, no HDR, pano or other multi-exposure, selective techniques allowed, all other photography guidelines must be followed….have fun!

Whether it’s youths dressing differently or people protesting against beliefs, enter your best shots of people rebelling against what they don’t believe in. Use your imagination and show your most creative shots of people rebelling. There must be at least one person in the shot.

Storms, clouds, tornadoes, hurricanes, monsoons, and lightning are a few examples of weather that we love to photograph. For this contest take a shot of dramatic weather. Ordinary shots of rain or overcast skies will be considered off topic, make it Dramatic! The definition of Drama that will be used for this contest is: Arresting or forceful in appearance or effect.

Later on, you must reveal in the comments or description where the hidden letter is located.

We usually just snap shots from eye level, as it looks “normal.” In this contest, get down on the ground and shoot while lying on your belly. Give a sense of perspective that’s missing from images taken from above.
