downoffthedragon: That's funny. When I think of Mondrian I think of primary coloured squares! I think that I might try this one. ( 5 years and 3476 days ago )
Contest Moderator: The drawingcontests have a new rule: 7.4. References can be used to look at and study BUT you are not allowed to make an exact or close copy of the reference. As it has to be your own artwork you'll have to create your own interpretation of the reference without making it your goal to make a (close) copy of the reference. ( 5 years and 3476 days ago )
jawshoewhah: So abstract, meaning more surrealistic and not an actual, day drawing of a tree or forest? (i.e. a tree growing out of someone's head for instance?) ( 5 years and 3476 days ago )
jawshoewhah: day=say ( 5 years and 3476 days ago )
Contest Moderator: @jawshoewhah: description says "Your goal in this contest is to draw an abstract scene with trees" so yes... abstract and not surreal ( 5 years and 3472 days ago )
iquraishi: Hey People.. its Lamantines birthday today.. wish you a very Happy Birthday buddy.. ( 5 years and 3472 days ago )
pingenvy: Please post a definition of abstract. The version I teach includes objective distortion and misrepresentation. Please specify. Thanks ( 5 years and 3469 days ago )
Lamantine: I'll give you one tip pigenvy , first, yo draw a tree without the leaves. secondly, you add different leaves with different and unrealisitic sizes, (for e.g some can be very small and some very large) . Thirdly, you add some abstract shapes everywhere for the background. Then you colour it !! ( 5 years and 3469 days ago )
Qofcheez: The work in the link focuses on his primary colored squares work - which I'm guessing it not the aim here. Are there other examples of what is being looked for here? ( 5 years and 3468 days ago )
Lamantine: You might use any colour you want. ( 5 years and 3467 days ago )
Lamantine: Take the first entry as an example ( 5 years and 3466 days ago )
Lamantine: Im sad to see that we've got only one entry in this contest ( 5 years and 3462 days ago )

Ok, I disliked this as it was 1st entered. The colors were too weak, so it has been revamped a bit. (5 years and 3471 days ago)

I've never tried anything like this before and this is my first drawing entry but it looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a shot. Used a pen to draw the outlines and then pastels to do the colors. Worked on a wooden board to try and give the image a bit of texture and then used some toilet paper to smudge the background details to give it a smoother look compared to the main image.
