Contest goal:

DIGITAL DRAWING: Abstract art has its own special beauty and offers the freedom of perception. Sometimes you don't even need a fixed idea to begin with, since this kind of art can start with one line and end up a masterpiece. Your goal in this contest is to digitally draw such a cool abstract art, using whatever colors and shapes you like. Have fun!

EmiK: Now that is going to be fun = ) ( 5 years and 3367 days ago )
jbillitteri: I love this .... ( 5 years and 3366 days ago )
k5683: I think members are forgetting or not knowing the RULES AND GUIDELINES for DD drawings. Many tools that are being used are NOT allowed. ( 5 years and 3364 days ago )
MossyB: I don't see anything about tools that are NOT allowed, only that it be digitally drawn, using colors and shapes. Please provide a link - It will help everyone know! ( 5 years and 3364 days ago )
VitalExpressions: I think the rules for the digital drawing need to be revamped a bit. First there really should be a link in the contest descriptions to the rules. Second half of the images when looking through the step by steps of last weeks illusions one, broke the rule for constructing an image. Not that I care because they were designed, but I think saying we can't use shapes is silly. What about using illustrator to illustrate? When I draw on a regular paper I have used a compass and ruler for different parts? Isn't that the same? Now that I found the dang rules I won't break them, but they should be looked at. The limitations are a little extreme. ( 5 years and 3364 days ago )

MossyB: I definitiely agree that the link to the contest rules should ALWAYS be included. THANKS xogx2002, much appreciated. THIS WEEK, the description at the top says "whatever colors AND SHAPES you like." So the shapes question (for THIS contest) is moot, VitalExpressions. Perhaps you should e-mail support@pxleyes.com with your concerns if you feel the limitations of a contest are extreme, but this one seems to have addressed the issue. ( 5 years and 3364 days ago )
MossyB: Now that I've read the rules, and looked at all the entries, I don't see ANYTHING about "tools that are NOT allowed," nor do I see any of the entries breaking the rules linked to. Unless k5683 is referring to an entry that has been DQ'd and removed, the members have not done anything wrong... ( 5 years and 3364 days ago )
EmiK: I guess I did it wrong, but it would have been nice to get a note from the moderators ( 5 years and 3363 days ago )
k5683: It is not only shapes that I was talking about, it was also FILTERS. The only filter that is highlighted in the rules and guidelines as acceptable to use is liquify. Distort, Sylize etc. are not allowed. ( 5 years and 3363 days ago )
MossyB: k5683, could you PLEASE post a link to where you that rule is? I did not see any such restriction against filters. My SBS clearly and honestly states what filters I've used, and there is nothing in the link provided by xogx2002, nor in the description for this contest stating that filters cannot be used... ( 5 years and 3363 days ago )
MossyB: *to where you found that rule? (too early in the morning, combined two sentences to make really bad grammar...) ( 5 years and 3363 days ago )
MossyB: Nevermind, I just found it, Rule 7.9, "All digital tools are allowed to use, except the use of filters. " Ah well. It my entry is DQ'd that's okay. ( 5 years and 3363 days ago )
MossyB: *to where you found that rule? (too early in the morning, combined two sentences to make really bad grammar...) ( 5 years and 3363 days ago )
VitalExpressions: MossyB, That rule about the shapes is not Moot for this competition. I know because mine has been pulled. I am not speaking from an irritated perspective. I am speaking generally. And I didn't say the rules in this particular contest have been broken. But that last weeks illusions one, every body just about used the marching ants to make thier circles and squares perfect. ( 5 years and 3363 days ago )
VitalExpressions: It just seems to me silly that we can't just go to town. As long as we don't use outside sources. The benefits to drawing digitally is to be able to make quick decisions about what would make your image look better. Have you ever done a pencil drawing and thought it would look better in water color, or chalk. Well, click click there you go. People will know if it is "Construction" or "art". Or at least let us use circles and squares. Anyway, WHATEVER! I will follow the rules now that I have found them and quit my B*tchin' ( 5 years and 3363 days ago )
MossyB: I ahree w>you, VE, digital means, well, DIGITAL! And, since the rules clearly state, "using whatever colors and shapes you like," I would expect that to apply to ANY shape, period. But, as many digital artists know all too well, there are those who do not understand that digital art is digital, and putting restrictions on it is more defeatist than anything else. Take the filters rule, for example. If I use the Blur tool, rather than the blur filter, I can still blur any pixel into near oblivion, it will just take longer. But a blur will blend the colored pixels better than anything else, period. By the same token, being able to reduce the opacity of your brush strokes, or the painting mode (pin light, hue, luminosity, etc.) Should also be verboten by such draconian restrictions. But, some things are allowed, some things aren't...Oh well, I didn't make the contest or the rules, so I'll follow the rules, or take the DQ. Makes no nevermind to me. Of the 7 current entries in this contest, 5 are clearly obvious filter usage, with the other 2 borderline. So essentially ALL of the entries should be DQ'd, which would make this contest a total bust...Like you, now that I've found the rules, I'll try better to follow them. But I still think Digital Drawing should only be restricted to no outside sources... ( 5 years and 3363 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Problem with allowing all functions of photoshop like filters means these digital drawing contests will be photoshopcontests without source and therefor contain a lot of filterworks. We do not consider those to be drawingskills and that's what those contests are about: drawingskills and not photoshopskills. It's experience from the earliest DD contests, that's why the restrictions. We had a lot of entries which where constructed with just shapes. To set the standard higher we decided to restrict some tools. Is it ideal? No, but it raises the level of the entries-contests. If ppl would use those tools with sense we wouldn't have problems with it but experience is that we had to ban those tools... sadly.

In some contests (like last weeks ilusions contest) we allow some tools to be used which normally are not allowed. ( 5 years and 3360 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Submission time is closed, any entry submitted after 2000hrs GMT October 22 will be removed. ( 5 years and 3353 days ago )
k5683: Funny, I got my entry removed for using a blur fiter---but the thing is....I didn't even use a blur filter, nor did I say in my SBS I used it. I used a soft brush at low opacity. Oh well, my entry sucked anyway. LOL I guess maybe the SBS has to be more specific to really tell what we are using. ( 5 years and 3352 days ago )

I drew this with a wacom tablet in Photoshop. I used various brushes. I used splatter brushes from bittbox. The URL is:
