Living Statues - Drawing Contest [1 entry]

peasant woman Picture

Winning entry, with a score of:
56.5%
Contest goal:

Traditional Drawing: find a pic of a statue or statues and bring them to "life" by giving them realistic features. The more real you can make your statue look, the better.

You must post the link to the statue which was your inspiration, do not trace or make a close copy of the statue; the image may just be used as a reference. Do not forget the minimal 2 progress steps in your SBS.

thefinalcut: After trying to find a reference photo, I realized that this idea was about finding a pic of a statue and trying to make it look the same, only "alive". I don't think they have copyright right laws on statues, do they? Is this ok, Mods? ( 5 years and 3165 days ago )
thefinalcut: Draw it like they made the statue to your drawing ( 5 years and 3165 days ago )
angelmmm1112: can i change what is hapening to the statue? for instance an angel is standing in prayer.. can i bind the angel? and can i change its clothes? ( 5 years and 3165 days ago )

thefinalcut: The point of this contest is an excersise in detail work. To take the statue and make it look "real" or "alive" by making it look like its actually standing there. Not a statue. ( 5 years and 3164 days ago )
thefinalcut: Thanks for your support on this idea everyone. ( 5 years and 3159 days ago )
wolfrun0: Hmmmmm, I'm still a bit confused on this. For clarification- we take a statue and try to make it look alive, as opposed to static and inanimate? Are we allowed to change anything about the statue to achieve this in our drawings? ( 5 years and 3158 days ago )
thefinalcut: Yes, but it has to still look like the statue.

Contest Moderator: A photo of a statue on public display is fine to use as long as the picture itself is free of copyright. Just because a statue is free to photograph doesn't mean the photograph is free to use. Always check your sources. Always post source/ref links. Please remember Drawing Contest Rules:
7.3. Reference photos: are allowed (no copyrighted images), but should be mentioned in your SBS.

7.4. References can be used to look at and study BUT you are not allowed to make an exact or close copy of the reference. As it has to be your own artwork you'll have to create your own interpretation of the reference without making it your goal to make a (close) copy of the reference.

dato_t: But mod...

1.7. Warning Messages from Moderators: Take any warning message from moderation serious. After you've made changes to your entry, you can red flag it and explain the changes to let moderation know.

I understand if the entry is off theme, moderator can remove it immediately but there are some cases where moderator removed it without warning. ( 5 years and 3151 days ago )
thefinalcut: Thanks Mod!! ( 5 years and 3151 days ago )
