Digital drawing: A.M. Cassandre was a 20th century artist who's mostly known for his great poster designs during the Interbellum. His style was simplistic, functional but at the same time also fancy and very illustrative. His posters often show an almost mathematical construction of lines and different shapes -sometimes more abstract, other times more figurative- and the use of gradient and bright colors. Some kind of ratatouille of cubism, constructivism, surrealism and Art Deco.
See here for some examples
The goal for this contest is to study the work of Cassandre, see how he worked and the themes he used, and create your own entry inspired by his posters. You are free to draw what you want, as long as you won't make an (almost) exactly the same copy from his posters, it has to be an own design (but not necessarily with text, like a real poster). Good luck!
REMEMBER these contests require that you post at least 2 intermediate steps of your drawing in a step by step guide, so we can see the progress of your work.
Reference photos are allowed (no copyrighted images), but links should be mentioned in your SBS. Include links for all images.
wazowski: Perhaps apart from the link in the goal, it's good to check google: http://www.google.nl/search?hl=nl&rlz=1B3GGLL_nlAR405AR405&biw=1920&bih=829&site=search&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=cassandre+poster&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq= Especially posters like "Nord Express", "Pivolo" and "Normandie" are typical for his style. JamesP: are we then allowed to use the gradient tool for this contest? ( 5 years and 3231 days ago )
ibmaxed: JamesP..i would say not. I was thinking the same thing. ( 5 years and 3229 days ago )
