You don't have to do a tight, finished piece of art in these drawing contests. Sketches can have great character to them that have a unique appeal. Your sketch looks just fine and has a nice style. No artist is ever totally satisfied with their work but never apologize for what you do, we all learn every time we create and that never stops.

Your drawing isn't in perspective at all, when lines are all parallel it's called an oblique drawing. This should be in the most basic type of perspective called one point perspective, the most fundamental kind and the first thing you'd learn in a basic drawing class. The depth of the cube is visually greater than the height and width making it appear oblong. You can find a basic description of perspective here: http://www.pxleyes.com/drawing-picture/4e615a3dbecaa/B-amp-W.html . Perspective can be difficult but you should find these simple rules helpful.
