Famous Paintings - Drawing Contest [3 entries]

American Gothic - Grant Wood Picture

Winning entry, with a score of:
66.5%
Contest goal:

Traditional Drawing: Find a picture of a famous painting and create a remake of it with traditional drawing tools. Your work has to be in a more modern style and colors, but keep the resemblance to the original, so that members can guess the painting and artist. The more resemblance, the better. Tracing is allowed and be sure to post a link to the painting used.

Exceptionally for this contest, tracing is allowed. Good luck! Contest 1 (the digital version) can be found here.
REMEMBER these contests require that you post at least 2 intermediate steps of your drawing in a step by step guide, so we can see the progress of your work.

Status: finished. Check out the winners below!

Toothpick134: So are we talking like famous painting only by artist like Picasso Van Gough Da Vinci or can some less knows artist's work be used? ( 5 years and 2979 days ago )
Contest Moderator: What's important is that the painting you copy is famous enough to be recognized by most people. There are a great number of works hanging in museums all over the world by many artists so your source base is huge. Just don't select an obscure work that has little notoriety, the more familiar the average person is with the original the more likely your interpretation will be appreciated. ( 5 years and 2979 days ago )
wazowski: And since Toothpick mentions Picasso, can you take *any* painting or only the ones from which the copyright is expired? Many of Picasso's work (and other 20th century paintings) has a copyright sign, because it's less than 70 years old... ( 5 years and 2979 days ago )
Contest Moderator: @ wazowski, since the paintings used for this contest will be openly disclosed and the objective is to create a "modern" version of an established work I would consider this a form of "Parody Tribute" which we could allow for this contest unless Admin decides against permitting any copyrighted images. For now avoid using copyrighted works and I will post an update as soon as I get a response. ( 5 years and 2979 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Sorry for the delay but we do have an answer now. It's okay to use copyrighted sources in this contest. Be sure to post your source and credit the artist. ( 5 years and 2968 days ago )
