Cut out acorn and placed upright on any contrasting background.
step 2 of 7
Drew curved paths on front of acorn. Copied each segment as a separate layer and trnsformed to create front shapes.
step 3 of 7
Drew paths back of acorn peel and used graduation to add colour and shaddows. Added an edge to give the acorn peel a 3D feel and textured it with a harsh grain sample from photoshops plugin "Grain Surgery". Added a perspective distort to the whole image to enhance the feeling of looking down.
step 4 of 7
New background painted purely free hand.A small sized scatter brush was used for the grass with a small amount of vertical motion blur. Photoshops grass brushes were used in the foreground.
step 5 of 7
Painted in a cloud in the sky. Added a shaddow on the grass and painted individual blades of grass at the edge of the shaddow and base of the acorn freehand.
step 6 of 7
My first attempt at creating a tree in my free copy of Carrara 5 3D software, following a free online tutorial. Parts of the trunk and some smaller branches were missing for some reason, so made these up in photoshop.
step 7 of 7
Added tree to acorn. made some of the lower branches appear to grow out of acorn, and added shaddows.
