This guide was made for entry: Alone In Contest: burger
Original image
step 1 of 12
First off I cropped out some elements of the cheeseburger for future use.
step 2 of 12
Next up, I took the cheese and adjusted the hue/stretched it out using the liquify tool. This will become the image's sky.
step 3 of 12
After that, I took the hamburger and made slight adjustments with the liquify tool. I then desaturated the image and adjusted the brightness/contrast until I got what resembled a snow covered mountain.
step 4 of 12
I copied this layer and pasted it behind the "mountain range", adjusting the hue and adding a gaussian blur to give it some depth.
step 5 of 12
Copying the mountain range once more, I flipped it vertically and made some more adjustments to give the image a few rock formations closer to the foreground.
step 6 of 12
I then took the bottom half of the bun and adjusted the hue to a blueish color.
step 7 of 12
Once this was done I stretched the image out and adjusted the brightness/contrast to make it appear white was snow. The little hints of texture left over from the bun gives a nice, subtle bit of depth.
step 8 of 12
After that was finished I constructed my sapling from the burger's lettuce.
step 9 of 12
Now I added a bit of snow to our scene.
step 10 of 12
I wasn't happy with the "flurry" at this stage, so I added a little more.
step 11 of 12
Realizing the sapling looked somewhat barren, I added a few clumps of snow to it's lush leaves.
step 12 of 12
At the last minute I decided that there wasn't enough contrast in this piece to make it interesting. My solution was to tweak the hue/lighting effects on the sky and mountains in order to stage this scene at night. Thanks for viewing!
