Adjustments were made to the background with nik filter Darken Lighten Center and the burn tool.

the new background was inserted over the gradient and the opacity was reduced to 60%.

This is a background that I created

I made a selection and filled it with a gradient layer.

I took part of the new background image and overlayed the face.

Further adjustments with the burn tool and some facial enhancements produced the FIRST finished work.

It was suggested that I change backgrounds because the first one was distracting. I took the advice and reselected the background, inversed the selection and dragged the man to this new background that I previously created.

Here is the finished work with the SECOND background with much better results.
