I masked out a portion of this old Bryce image (will upload steps for creating, but i have to download the terrain) and masked it to fit the layer underneath...

I used the shiny portion of the ball layer to mask out a piece of the earth...

I duplicated the layer and gave it a blur...I layered the unblurred layer on hue, and the blurred layer on linear burn. The skull layer was on pin light.

Using Bryce again, I created this image of a city stretched over a sphere (will upload Bryce steps)

I layered the first copy on color...

I masked out pices of the city, warped them, and layered over the skull on overlay.

bryce scene for making of the skull image....i can't remember exactly what i did to distort it, but i opened up a skull mountain terrain from the presets and started editing it, playing with the elevation and what not......
