I started by isolating the front horse and removing all shadows and the pole.
step 2 of 9
I duplicated it twice and hid one for later use. The other was then placed over the inside horse so that I could recreate it fully. I masked out areas that weren't required such as the reins and the section of tail behind the pole.
step 3 of 9
I then began the tedious task of recreating the background. I started with the buggy and the walls behind the horse.
step 4 of 9
I then put in the side rail on the buggy and put in some ground below the far horse behind the buggy.
step 5 of 9
I then finished painting the walls and also removed part of the post supporting the missing horse. I also redrew the blue pole.
step 6 of 9
I then transformed the pole (warped it) to make it look as if it had been bent.
step 7 of 9
I then placed the original horse out the front and made him 25% bigger.
step 8 of 9
Gave the front horse a drop shadow to ground him.
step 9 of 9
I then cropped the image to my liking and adjusted the lighting.
Awesome.
