There are a lot of little faces and characters in the blooms of the orchid. After looking at 100s of orchid images I came across these little creatures. Using the pen tool to capture the little beauties, then I made a selection with 0.5 feathering.
step 2 of 11
Again the pen tool was used to build the main stem, then liquify was used to pull out the two branches. Filled with color and used bevel and emboss for dimensional clarity.
step 3 of 11
Here I just placed the little beauties.
step 4 of 11
OK, now some foilage was needed. Just simply made a pattern using (you guessed it!) the pen tool and turning it into a selection and filling it with color.
step 5 of 11
More foilage added. The dodge and burn tool was used for highlight and shadow.
step 6 of 11
Duplicated the foilage layer and used the overlay blending mode. Also changed color of the stem to match foilage.
step 7 of 11
Time to make the little beauties come alive. Using different layers their eyes were just painted using a soft tool brush. Dodge and burn tool also used for dimensional clarity.
step 8 of 11
Now for the little one that is not quite here yet. Duplicated the smaller beauty and used warp to transform into an emerging bud.
step 9 of 11
Background added, but doesn't blend very well so next step was needed.
step 10 of 11
Created this background with a clouds render. Used a large soft brush to darken more in areas where needed.
step 11 of 11
With the second background layer underneath the blending mode of the first background was changed to overlay. This blended a lot better and gave an almost surreal atmosphere, just right to find this rare and enchanting flower!
