here i created the first piece of terrain, which I wanted to be fairly flat but still have some small features
step 2 of 17
Here is the terrain editor in vue 7, as you can see it is fairly flat but with enough features to belong in a mountainous region.
step 3 of 17
this is the mountain to the left of the screen which I made quite pointy. I wanted some contrast between the flat foreground and the mountains.
step 4 of 17
this is the terrain in the middle distance is is merely a filler terrain to give some depth.
step 5 of 17
here is the terrain editor for the middle ground,
step 6 of 17
I added this tree to the image to give some interest in the image, it is an autumn tree with golden leaves.
step 7 of 17
This is the terrain editor for the far mountains, rather rugged and with some wind and glaciel erosion added for good measure.
step 8 of 17
this screen gives the camera settings used for this landscape, i added some blur to give depth.. if you look at the right hand tool bar at the top you will see the settings I have used.
step 9 of 17
the snowy mountains are made up of two materials blended together with a fractal map to disperse the snow across the mountains realistically.
step 10 of 17
this is the first of the two materials used for the mountains.
step 11 of 17
this is the second of the two materials used for the mountains.
step 12 of 17
This is the atmosphere selection screen, I chose animated godrays for this image As I like the way it lit the back mountains.
step 13 of 17
this is the function editor in vue 7, this is where I added the fractal to mix the two mountain materials.
step 14 of 17
this is the Ecosystem painter, i used this to ad dry weeds to the background.
step 15 of 17
In photoshop I cropped out the water using a layer mask
step 16 of 17
In photoshop again I blended the two images together. I converted the mountains to black and white to match the water. then, I added a slight gold overlay and blended away with a layer mask and a soft brush at differing opacities.
step 17 of 17
this is the finished render, which was rendered with the default setting of "Final" also the aspect ratio was set to 16:9 widescreen, and the image size to 800x450 pixels.
