Started with the phonebox image as it was to be my background. I increased the canvas size to allow space for my other sources.
step 3 of 13
I copied a section on the left and flipped it horizontally and then stretched it out. I was not concerned with the fact that it looked flipped as most would be covered by other images.
step 4 of 13
Next I did a rough cutout of my elephant. I resized him and placed him into position. I needed the head and leg to be out of the phonebox.
step 5 of 13
Next I used a layer mask for the elephant part which was outside the phonebox.
step 6 of 13
Using another copy of the elephant on a separate layer, I masked out the body section. I then squeezed it into the phonebox and masked it behind the door panels. I then lowered the opacity so that it looked like it was behind the glass.
step 7 of 13
Next I cloned out the visible parts of the guy.
step 8 of 13
Since the guy was still visible in the thin glass panels, I copy/pasted the top panel to all the others ones below, transformed them and masked them in.
step 9 of 13
Next step was to mask out the girl and bring her into the scene. She was flipped and resized.
step 10 of 13
I then made some color adjustments on the girl to try and match her in better to the image.
step 11 of 13
I then darkened the inside of the phonebox (as it would be shadowed by the elephant). I also placed a shadow below his ear on the door and a shadow his body from the door.
step 12 of 13
I then added shadows for the elephant and girl. I also placed some shading where the girl is touching the elephant.
step 13 of 13
I finished by cropping the image and adding some color adjustments.
