Edited a Sphere to get the general shape I wanted for the helmet.

Added a floor and a tube for additional detailing.

Added Nose piece and left and right cheek pieces. These were modified cubes

Applied a Matrix extrude to the helmets ridge piece and hyper nurbs.

Added smaller less complex matrix extrudes to the top and bottom rings for detail.

Experimented with textures to find suitable ones. In the end I went with aluminium for the main body, and concrete and metal mixtures for the rings, spikes and front guards.

I decided it would look better elevated off the ground and with a reflection underneath showing the inside of the helmet so created a wooden stand, a cylinder, cube and sphere were used.

Added light sources, the final render had 3 light sources, within the helmet, up and above as can be seen here and over to the left also.

Experimented with different viewing angels, moving the lights around a little and kept checking by rendering. And that was me finished :-)
