Pen tool is used to create a path/ selection to remove the background of the hut.
step 3 of 13
separated hut
step 4 of 13
Roof panel on the front was duplicated, distorted, and used to cover the open area. The same was done on the side
step 5 of 13
OK, this should have been step 4. Cut out hut was placed into the cattail scene.
step 6 of 13
In this step, each leg was selected separately, duplicated, and transformed downward to the water line, then re-merged with the hut. The front walk was duplicated also after selection. Then all edges were trimmed of masking artifacts.

step 8 of 13
The canoe was dropped into the scene & the reproduced section of porch was fitted as a walkway. Ladder rungs were made from other rail pieces.
step 9 of 13
The canoe was too bright on the shaded areas, so I selected those areas with the pen tool and airbrushed some shadows.
step 10 of 13
The hut was duplicated and levels changed to blacken it, where opacity was then dropped. The legs were discarded due to distortion difficulties. The box part was scewed and distorted and leg shadows were made from a brush to match the box.
step 11 of 13
Added man from my photos.
step 12 of 13
Final stuff: Paddle drawn with pen tool. Blue layer was added under water layer & eraser was used to indicate travel and paddle marks. Shadows refined for building. Reflection of cattail added to newly exposed water(blue layer). Legs of hut shaded on dark side. Dragonfly added.(will post dragonfly pic as step 13)
