I first took my rectangular shape tool, created a square, put about 20% perspective angle then duplicated it then flip it horizontal then fitted a top shape with the distort feature.

i then fitted the photo in to the cube

i then did a ctrl click (pc) on the individual shaped selected the photo and with copy paste created new layers

with the result of 3 sections

i then proceeded to fill in the top layer

i created an eclipse shape as a guide to the top of gramps head

which helped me to get a clean shape of his head

i added a stroke effect of a thin black which gave my out line of the shapes

with the line tool at about 6 px, i made the tic tac toe grid duplicated it and flipped it horizontal and matched it up to each other

now with the erase tool and the layer selected i trimmed the excess

i then by eye made the top grid

and proceeded to trim the excess with the erase tool

i then created a center gradient of grey and white

i then made a black shadow with my brush tool

put some glussian blur to it

brought the opacity down to about 76%

and there you have it. it looks better the second time around, didn't make steps on the first attempt.
