This is the background with the 'creases' marked out on it. Got the crease marks by first folding in paper and then unwraping.

Here are all the relevant pieces neaded.
I know this because when i folded the bird out of paper, I made a mark where each piece would be. Then when unwraped i could see where exactly those pieces were with respect to the crease lines.

Here i tried to create the 3D effect by adding the back wings and the back piece behind the neck and on the beak.
Added drop shadows to all the pieces.

Created the creases in the wings by cutting, transform, and changing the brghtness.

Added dodge and burn where necesary for effect.
