Flute player source photo by earl53
step 3 of 10
Source photo for girl used in image.
step 4 of 10
First step was to mask out girl's image using lasso tool first, then eraser tool to fine tune it. Then girl was moved onto sunset background.
step 5 of 10
Using the edit/transform/flip horizontally tool, the sunset is reversed.
step 6 of 10
Here flute player is inserted on layer in front of girl.
step 7 of 10
Flute players face is removed w/eraser tools, then flute is adjusted to edit/transform/scale to fit new face and adjusted with edit/transform/rotate tool to correct angle.
step 8 of 10
Clothing is now adjusted to new girl's body using edit/transform/distort tool and doing some cloning to complete it.
step 9 of 10
Reddish leaves from contest source photo are masked out and various leaves duplicated using alt key. Some are also reversed with edit/transform/flip tool and also rotate tool. Several are also changed for opacity by clicking on the layer being worked on in the layer window. The window that comes up allows you to change the opacity of that particular layer. After applying some leaves that have been made almost transparent, solid leaves are applied on layers on top of them.
step 10 of 10
To complete the entry, Flute is airbrushed with a light spray of gray to dull it - as it is away from the light. Face is also darkened somewhat and a layer of orange (at 22% opacity) applied to make her look as though she might have reflected light from the sunset, or perhaps from a fire reflecting on her face. A few touchups were added to her eyes and face, but basically I wanted to leave a natural look to her face.
