Marked the bright spots of the sky peaking through and painted them black
step 2 of 10
Added two layers with a dark blue to transparent gradient with blending set to overlay
step 3 of 10
Added an Adjustment layer, a circular "Gradient Map", with a blue to white in the center
step 4 of 10
Added an Adjustment Layer, a Cooling Filter (LBB) from "Photo Filter" at 60%, and set blending mode to Multiply
step 5 of 10
Added a "Lighting Effects" filter to the bottom right to have a better light effect between foreground and background
step 6 of 10
Picked an image of my dog with his spooky eyes. Only used the head with eyes and multiplied this about a dozen time or more. Placed these in dark spots in the background. You will only notice them in the high resolution image.
step 7 of 10
Took one of my smoke images and opened it with a high contrast and some hue/saturation. Multiplied this image six times and rotated, transformed and smudge each of them a little so they look like little ghost flying around from behind the tree
step 8 of 10
Used another smoke image to create another creepy object. Opened this image with high contrast and some hue/saturation as well. Mirrored and combined these two layers. Erased some parts and painted additional parts. Finally added a Gaussian blur to break the edges
step 9 of 10
Added another smoke image for some fog and also added the previously created ghosts into the image. Blending mode was set to overlay for all these smoke images so they appear translucent.
step 10 of 10
This is the combined image. The final image has some additional layers. A vibrance to boost some of the colors, a curves on the red and blue channel to improve the night feeling a little bit more. Finally I gave it another Lighting Effects to the right bottom
