Statue photo is moved over background source photo. They have been sized to the same size and resolution already.

Background of statue is being removed by using the eraser tools in various sizes.

Here background has been all removed ready to do sky.

Sky is duplicated (alt key) first of all.

One duplicated layer is flipped vertically (edit/transform/flip vertical)

Another layer of lightning is duplicated, then rotated and moved into place. Some colors are being tried on statue as I move along.

Color changes are being made on statue as more layers of sky are added. Each layer is cut back in opacity by clicking on that particular layer on the layers window, then changing the blending properties.

Another layer of sky is added and moved with rotate tool. Edges have to be blended with the eraser tool set at a low setting, or by airbrushing colors to blend.

Finally, some color changes are made using the color balance tool. Click on each layer, color change, go to another layer, color change, etc. When all are changed, all layers can be merged in layers tools. Final color change is made to statue as well. Blues seemed more appropriate than brighter colors. Dodge tool was used to give light to the head and top of hands, and robe. Base of statue is cloned to mostly dark blue.
