2. Using rectangular marquee tool, I select a perfect square 100 x 100 pixels and fill with black using the paint bucket tool.

3. I then flatten the image and duplicate the layer and repeat until I have covered my whole canvas.

5. I decide to double the width of my canvas and duplicate the checkered pattern again.

6. I find a suitable font and use a different color to see it better, type “Checkeredâ€, size and position it.

7. After creating another layer, I then hide the checkered pattern layer so all I can see is the type.

8. Using the magic wand tool, I select the outside of the type and select inverse. This will give me a mask to use.

9. I then hide the type layer and make the checkered layer visible and drag that layer over to another canvas then back to the original layer and reposition the square so they are the opposite of the background, giving me the effect.
