This guide was made for entry: Friends In Contest: dogs
step 1 of 8
First set up dimensions for subjects then did a rough drawing
step 2 of 8
Added new layer ,lowed opacity and refined the sketch. this is now the working drawing.
step 3 of 8
start laying in the colors of subjects, always try to have your colors light next to dark for better contrast and appeal
step 4 of 8
darken colors as you go , either by opacity pressure or using the adjust contrast.
step 5 of 8
Finished the Boston terrier decieded the bloodhound needed a bone in its mouth for a story line.
step 6 of 8
Finished both dogs. I used the lasso tool as I went through out the painting to section off portions of the dogs body and fur lines. then using the brush strokes filter, applied accent brush stroke lines.
step 7 of 8
The background was very quick and undetailed so as not to draw away from the dogs. I did a copy of step six then used the magic wand to start the background. there are other ways to do this but I wanted the dogs in the beginning of the background so I could use them as a guide for my horizon line and to get some good color values.
step 8 of 8
After I have finished the background to my satisfaction I simply placed the dogs from step six over the now painted over ones in step seven. Then feathered the edges with the smudge tool and pulled small fur lines out of the body at the same time. A few touch up and finished.
