I cut out the source image using mask...
step 2 of 7
... then I trimmed the image and saved it as PNG file.
step 3 of 7
I created a new document and placed the PNG file I had created.

Using the big shell as guide, copies of it were placed, reduced and rotated following the shell spiral from beginning to end (40 copies to be exact).
step 5 of 7
A black background was created above my guide.
step 6 of 7
Gradiente overlay was applied to each image copy.
step 7 of 7
The image was cropped and on a new layer above the background I stroked a large soft brush using a dark shade of green.
