A Work in Progress: Watery Planet

step 1 of 5

I made the displacement map myself and added it to the plane. In the final render the plane was set up to have 888x888 polygons.

step 2 of 5

Added the water, it's a huge plane with texture set up in 3ds Max (it's glossy, no color, bump map is fractal noise, set to 60, and refraction is raytrace, set to 90). Added the sky in Vue. And with it comes my next problem - I have no idea how to place objects (in this case a planet) BEHIND the sky. Wherever I put it, no matter how far it's always in front, and it looks really bad..... So, I did a 'clever' workaround...

Creation of Watery Planet: Step 2

step 3 of 5

I made the planet in 3ds max, lit it, and rendered it to PNG.......

step 4 of 5

Then I edited the PNG in Photoshop.........

step 5 of 5

And then I added that PNG to a plane in 3ds Max. Voila! It still looks like it's in front, but at least way less distractive. So, I've been looking for tuts for Vue all over the net, but I just can't find the solution. If you know how to add stuff behind sky I'd really appreciate your help!! =)
