step 2 of 10
Morning, source photo for background by mqtrf at pxleyes.com
step 3 of 10
Beach source image and background sky image are moved into new canvas.
step 4 of 10
Bottom of background is removed with eraser tools.
step 5 of 10
A new layer is selected, and an orange overlay is created with below 40% opacity to create a slightly orange tone to look like background color of sky is also hitting the beach sand and foilage.
step 6 of 10
A 9% airbrush spray of color to match edge of water to beach image is used to blend the edges of the two.
step 7 of 10
The beach walkers and horse are removed from their source image with the lasso tool and moved into the image we're working on. After masking out the rest of the extra around the edges, the image will be duplicated and one moved over top of the other (use layering tool), and the one underneath will have color removed and a light edge on the side facing the light source will extend past the edge of the top image. This will create a backlit image.
step 8 of 10
What looked like a very small lighthouse is covered with a larger one created with the brush tool using the shift key to help make straight lines with the brush tool. The color is the same as the area around it to keep it in the distance with a lot of atmosphere between it and the walkers.
step 9 of 10
Using zoom, close-up work is done with brush to draw in the birds. Those behind lighthouse are done with a smaller point, with soft color so that they can be seen , but not as obvious. No need for much detail there. Those closer are a little larger, with wings tilted at interesting angles, and some detail with burn tool, and suggestion of heads and legs on a couple. These can't be too strong.
step 10 of 10
Final step is to make final adjustments to shadows .
