Source photo of young couple on their wedding day.
step 3 of 12
Castle source and wall/tree source are set to same resolution (200 dpi) then stone wall is set onto full canvas size, and castle source is placed over it (on front layer).
step 4 of 12
Castle scene is scaled down in size (edit/transform/scale tool) and opacity reduced to around 50% so that wall and tree shapes can be seen through it.
step 5 of 12
Tree has been 'erased' through castle layer and wall edges also are removed with eraser tool set at hard edge for both.
step 6 of 12
Edges of castle scene and wall/tree scene are merged with soft brush eraser set at 44%.
step 7 of 12
Cloning tool with small, soft airbrush tool was used to further merge two scenes where water met edges of foreground.
step 8 of 12
Kissing couple source is changed to 200 dpi resolution, and moved into the canvas.
step 9 of 12
Kissing couple is scaled down to fit into 'grotto' and moved around until a suitable placement is found. I tried to show both the swans and still have a nice 'framing' area of the tree to show some silhouette of their heads.
step 10 of 12
Layer with 'grotto' is slightly darkened with brightness/contrast tool to really create a shadowed area for the couple.
step 11 of 12
A slight blue overlay layer is added to give a nice glow to the castel scene.
step 12 of 12
Light source has been changed on tree to match that of castle scene using the burn tool and paint brush with dark color to take out the light already there, and dodge tool to create some patches of light on the right side of tree.
