select your image and with pen tool take one arm and make a new layer. then do the same with the other arm. the procedure is the same for both arms, but you have to work with each one in different layers.

when you have your new layer, the first thing is to desaturate the image, then apply levels. next invert your image. ctrl+i and go to channels. ctrl+ click on the top thumbnail and ctrl+c and then ctrl+v.

you are gonna get an image like this. this is supose to be transparent. go to adj+hue&sta+ colorize and give the color you like. then go to levels and apply it. give to the layer blend mode luminosity at 60%

from this image select only the splash area. make a new layer with it and go to levels. then go to channels and select the channel with better contrast. in this case was the red one. duplicate it and apply curves. ctrl+click go to layers ctrl c+v

the same procedure with this image. first levels, then go to channels. duplicate the channel with better contrast. then curves. next ctrl+click this channel click on the eye icon of rgb. go to layers ctrl+c+ ctrl+v this take only the white/drops.

selec parts of the fire you want to use and mask it over the arm and use different blend modes. I used screen, multiply and overlay. by the way, at the end I had 47 layers. I hope you like it
