This is the alien plant I used as the " Alien" In the middle of the egg.
step 2 of 16
Here is the plant selection screen.
step 3 of 16
This is the plane editor, which allows me to manipulate the branches and roots etc. This allowed me to create the alien from the basic plant.
step 4 of 16
The egg is made from a primitive sphere, just pulled into shape.
step 5 of 16
step 6 of 16
I chose the moon as the basic planet background.
step 7 of 16
I added these clouds.
step 8 of 16
I used Tropical water for a nice greenish hue.
step 9 of 16
This is my custom texture that I made using an alpha plane and a simple photograph.
step 10 of 16
First select the alpha plane primitive, the one that allows you to place an image on it.
step 11 of 16
Here is the actual photograph I'm going to use for the texture. I have vue set up so my texture library in "My Picture folder" is accessible through vue's menu system, this makes it faster to find the images required.
step 12 of 16
Here's the alpha plane image loader, as you can see, the "Alpha" map at the bottom is black and white. Vue converts any image(jpg's) selected as an "Alpha image" into black white automatically. The alpha map or image is the transparency of the material. So if you don't want it transparent just leave out loading the alpha map.
step 13 of 16
This is the alpha plane completed.
step 14 of 16
I right clicked on the material preview window and selected "Edit material" Vue opens the material editor with your photo appearing as a material, only now with lots more editing functions available.
step 15 of 16
Click the last tab on the right that say "Effects" on it. Then select rotation, a pop up menu appears allowing you to twist and turn the material, this is how I got the vein type effect.
step 16 of 16
Then finally click on the small disc radio button at the bottom of the material editor, save your material for future use.
