I started with a basic cylinder. I then added edge loops and adjusted their sizes to get the pawn basic shape. Finished the pawn with a sphere. Next I added subsurfacing to smooth the pawn out and adjusted the amount of creasing to finish.
step 2 of 8
I started with the pawn basic shape, then extruded the cylinder and adjusted edge loop sizes to get the king. The cross on his head is made from a box.
step 3 of 8
I started with the king basic shape then extruded to get the head of the bishop. Then I cut the slit into his head.
step 4 of 8
More extruding from the king basic shape to get the queen.
step 5 of 8
The rook uses the pawn basic shape.
step 6 of 8
The knight uses the pawn base for the bottom. The top was modelled by extruding cubes with adding and adjusting of edge loops.
step 7 of 8
I started the chair with a sphere then removed the lower vertices. I then extruded the lower edge loop to get the edge of the chair. The back of the chair was a subdivided cube that I added a curve modifier to.
step 8 of 8
I set up the scene with a chess board on a round table and the chess pieces set in a checkmate position.
