My drawing of a butterfly (done with tablet and pen) is duplicated and set onto new canvas with duplications of the fern photo. Space is left between them which will be filled with background color.
step 4 of 11
A pastel gradient background is added (New layer/gradient) at 100% opacity.
step 5 of 11
Paint bucket tool is used to fill in colors in butterfly wings.
step 6 of 11
Butterflies are filled in, and now a grid is used (view/show/grid) to get 4 pieces exactly the same size and distance apart. This completes one quilt block.
step 7 of 11
Quilt block is now duplicated until there are enough to complete the quilt. As edges are set into place, they are merged with others blocks so that entire quilt can be moved onto sofa scene.
step 8 of 11
Quilt is placed over the sofa and is generally trimmed to sofa shape using the eraser tool.
step 9 of 11
Some shaping has been done to quilt with the liquify tool (image/liquify/warp), and by cutting opacity back to 5% the dog can be seen and the quilt erased over his image. Then opacity is set back to 100% for quilt.
step 10 of 11
Scene has been cropped down, cutting out background distractions. Liquify/warp tool is used to created more shape where dog pulls it down and where it hangs down from sofa. Burn tool gives more shadows where folds are.
