i first selected the heart

I scaled down the heart, added a black colour overlay, duplicated the heart and arranged it into a flower pattern

Chose a colour palette for the flower and shadows and high lights

coloured in the base colour for the alternate section of the flower

Coloured in the first shadow colour

I use Gaussian blur to blend the colour

I erase the gradient out side the outline

add the second shade colour

added first high light colour

added 2nd high light colour. you can use more than five colours for shadows and high lights but i find that usually does the tricks

I used the same technique on the other section of the flower using a slightly different colour palette.

i duplicated the flower then added a black and white adjustment layer so i can more easily change the colour with curves

added curves layer to alter the colour

i duplicated and arranged the flowers, used a similar technique for the vase and the shadows.
