Cut a couple of parts out for the rudder, top and bottom.
step 3 of 10
Cut these out for portholes at top.
step 4 of 10
Warped source into an oval shape.
step 5 of 10
Added the wood, warped to oval shape and changed blend mode to multiply. Also made a hue/sat layer adjustment.
step 6 of 10
Added parts to top for cylinder, transformed and warped into shape. As these shapes were added, I made another layer on top for painting on shading, using a clipping path to conform to shape.
step 7 of 10
Added collar in two layers, warped into shape, and shaded.
step 8 of 10
By this time I had almost 80 layers! Did some drawing and painting with ps to make the additional shapes, including the rivets.
step 9 of 10
Used the edge extracted earlier to make the rope attached from the box (that carried gunpowder!) to the craft.
step 10 of 10
Added the aquarium to the background with slightly lower opacity, and another layer of it with much lower opacity in the front (erased the portion in front of the craft and painted that area with a low opacity blue). Made a layer in the back of everything with difference clouds, blurred. Cut out one fish for the foreground, adjusted levels. Added bubbles and light beams.
