Striped source is liquified with warp to create interesting patterns.
step 2 of 11
Leaves in water (my own photo) is added over the background. Opacity will be lowered somewhat to allow textures of background to show through the leaves.
step 3 of 11
Leaf layer is duplicated several times, each time rotating them to create interesting design, then each is lowered in opacity to create transparency. Colors are also changed using the hue/saturation tool.
step 4 of 11
Standing child is added to be chopped and placed to look like wings are hers (from the bright leaf pattern behind her.)
step 5 of 11
Standing girl has flowers added to her hair. Later I had to do a lot of touchup on her skin tones which looked very blotchy even though resolution was good. Also had to reconstruct arm at the right and dress on the right which were drenched with light.
step 6 of 11
Butterfly is created from original striped source by using the liquify warp tool, then the eraser and smudge tools to finish shaping, and last of all the small, hard, brush tool for details. Burn tool creates some shadows. Butterfly will be used w open wings and also, by cutting in half and duplicating then horizontally flipping, will become a butterfly from side angle. Scale and distort tools also will be used to get shapes which look more realistic.
step 7 of 11
Here is the butterfly before cutting in half for side view.
step 8 of 11
Sitting child for 2nd fairy is moved into scene ready for chopping.
step 9 of 11
The fairy and two butterflies are almost complete here. The wings on the second fairy are made with the leaf pattern I made from source earlier to add to background.
step 10 of 11
Butterfly Garden is completed by adding a bright reddish brown filter over just the butterfly in the foreground.
Excellent SBS. Thank you.
