step 1 of 14
Created the head of the virus by creating an Icosahedron using Create Platonic Solids.
step 2 of 14
Made the edges of the Icosahedron by selecting all of the edges and beveling them to make them pronounced after smoothing.
step 3 of 14
Stem created out of a simple cylinder.
step 4 of 14
Added two extra small cylinders for the top and bottom of the sheath.
step 5 of 14
Created legs by creating a cylinder and deleting all bar the endcap. This was then extruded to create a leg.
step 6 of 14
Duplicated the leg 5 times, centred the pivot on the centre. Then rotated the legs on the Y axis and put them every 60 degrees.
step 7 of 14
Sheath created by creating a helix and ramping up the coils while reducing the width.
step 8 of 14
Resized the sheath to fit the body.
step 9 of 14
Bacteria created by making a cylinder cutting it in half and stretching the end.
step 10 of 14
Mirror geometry along the Z axis.
step 11 of 14
Sliced the cap off the end near the centre
step 12 of 14
Mirrored the geometry along Z again after moving the shape along to the right.
step 13 of 14
Smooth the bacteria.
step 14 of 14
Modelling the scene, adding the shading / lighting SBS tomorrow morning.
