Cut out the buildings. In the end, used only the tower.
step 2 of 21
Dupe the building, warp the grass.
step 3 of 21
Extract the nose and basic shapes of the copter.
step 4 of 21
Extract the motor.
step 5 of 21
Extract the blades.
step 6 of 21
Extract the tail.
step 7 of 21
Warp the nose.
(Eventually decided not to use it this way.)
step 8 of 21
Used patch tool and some cloning to simplify the texture.
step 9 of 21
Copy the window.
(Didn't use it.)
step 10 of 21
Warp the 'eye'.
(Didn't use this either.)
step 11 of 21
Started making the eye that I did end up using. This involved clouds with a couple of colors, difference clouds, then noise, then radial blur and some liquify for the outer colored part.
step 12 of 21
Worked on the outer part of the eye, inner shadow, etc.
step 13 of 21
Made the pupil shape with pen tool, filled with black.
step 14 of 21
Adjusted inner shadow on back part. Did a lot of experimenting on this section, started over a few times...
step 15 of 21
Extracted the tailwing.
step 16 of 21
Warped several layers to make petals. Then since it was so badly out of focus at this size, I smudged out the edge..... tedious, but an ok solution.
step 17 of 21
Extracted the long 'white cylindrical thing'.
step 18 of 21
Warped the brick texture a few times to cover the tower since it was also out of focus at this size. Lowered the opacity and used multiply mode.
step 19 of 21
Assembled the eight legs, worked on the bricks, and at some point had also added the door. Separated the door from its frame, used darken mode to blend the frame, then an extra layer of the door was blurred slightly and opacity lowered. Did quite a bit of burning, and built a step also.
step 20 of 21
Extracted this piece for the antennae. Warped them, liquified the tips, and added some bursts for glow.
step 21 of 21
Added a 'mothership' using standard ps shape, using same color as the 'critter', then added the same shape for window, with layer styles. Added an outer glow with noise to the craft and some grunge brush to the edges. On the main 'critter' also used the vent and plug brushes mentioned in source list. Painted the sky the same colors as in original.
