I duplicated the image - selecting the background to create a mask of the leaves that I wanted to have in the forefront.
step 3 of 7
Layer 2 copy -shows the mask that isolates the central picture from the background.
Layer 3
Using a new layer I created a "blank" picture frame. I know I can go and check "history" and create a "new snapshot" but I find it easier to have duplicate as reference. Like Layer 3 copy.
Layer 4 is just one side of the frame.
step 4 of 7
THis image shows the gradient I used to create the profile of the one picture frame side.
step 5 of 7
Here I gave the picture frame a colour which matched the picture using the original background source image.
step 6 of 7
Here you can see in Background copy 2/3 the result of the first mask of the leaves.
Layer 5 at the top shows a transparent mask of the picture frame before the gradient was applied. This adds the shadow to the leaves with the help of the "warp" tool. Once the shape was chosen the transparent mask was reselected - and the edge redefined to allow a slight blurring
step 7 of 7
IN this last picture the frame has been reselected and more of the background cut away.
Not shown is the star of fine lines I added to the droplet on the main leaf.
Layer 2 in this illustration was turned on at about 50% opacity to give the darker background to the picture. This has now been increased.
