Onions were cut out in rectangular shape, then scaled long and narrow. Then the scaled strip is duplicated to be joined side by side.
step 3 of 15
Pattern is formed by joining duplicates of onions. This will be further duplicated for background and also used for container under the arrangement. Color will be changed with hue/sat tool.
step 4 of 15
More duplications and merging of strips have been done to use for background.
step 5 of 15
Now the container is added to the background to begin putting arrangement together. It will be scaled as project moves along.
step 6 of 15
Using smudge tool, one of the onions is turned into a flower which is finished up using brush and eraser tools.
step 7 of 15
Flower clusters are formed by making stems with a brush tool, then duplicating the little flower shapes and placing them along the stems. Shading will be done with burn tool, and also by using brightness/contrast tool.
step 8 of 15
Here the stems are being brushed in and clusters started to be put on them. Background colors will be changed several times before project is completed.
step 9 of 15
Here is closeup of forming some of the leaves for clusters of flowers. Brush tool adds them, smudge tool and eraser helps shape them, then burn and dodge tools give them shape and shadows.
step 10 of 15
More clusters have been added here with shape of arrangement gradually being formed. It will be triangular.
step 11 of 15
Leaves are designed for use under and throughout the flowers still to be designed.
step 12 of 15
Leaf is duplicated and added near container. Others will be duplicated and scaled smaller and inserted behind flowers throughout the arrangement.
step 13 of 15
Flower petals are shaped from piece of sky with details done using the dodge tool. Petals will be also shaped with burn tool, then joined together and merged for the flower. Center is created with brush tools. Now flowers will be duplicated and sized to different sizes to place in arrangement. Also, some will be color changed to deep red to add variety to the arrangement. Larger flowers should be placed near bottom to keep arrangement well-balanced.
step 14 of 15
Many of the flowers have been added here, some turned by flipping horizontally and also doing some rotating. Fabric is placed at bottom over the container, opacity reduced to trim around container shape. Color will be changed to dark blue to carry through color scheme of the whole piece. Shadows must be added on left side since light source is from the right.
step 15 of 15
Clusters of little onions are made last of all by just chopping one onion then sizing it down to small then even smaller sizes, then placing them on a stem. This is then duplicated and color changed to be used throughout the arrangement. Close attention needs to be made to the shadows. I usually add them after placing all of the stems where I want them. Also, Shadows are needed where one can see between the flowers where they would be shaded. Finally, a Dk Blue filter is added with opacity down to 19%.
