Buffalo Hunt

buffalo
Original image
step 1 of 11
Source for cave drawing
step 2 of 11
Two hunters are cloned out of the source photo (after making a duplicate of background). Background is filled in carefully using the clone tool.
step 3 of 11
Buffalo is chopped from main source photo and placed in opening just created in the background.
step 4 of 11
Eraser tool is set at 15% and most of the labels are erased off of buffalo.
step 5 of 11
Some scratch and distress filters are used to rough up the surface of buffalo and some outlining begun with brush tool.
step 6 of 11
Buffalo is completely outlined here, and more 'scrunch' brush tools are used to make surface more like the horses on the background.
step 7 of 11
A hunter has been drawn in using bow and arrow with the brush tool. (I used my Wacom tablet to do the drawing since it can be controlled better.)
step 8 of 11
Another hunter is added here. It was mostly cloned from a hunter above the buffalo, then touched up around edges with clone and smudge tools.
step 9 of 11
A new layer is added in dark brown, then moved to layer behind the hunting background layer. Now the edges are shaped with eraser tool to look torn.
step 10 of 11
Burn tool is used around edges, but not evenly all around. It is more interesting if done unevenly, a little darker in some places than others.
step 11 of 11
A reddish brown filter is placed over the entire piece now and reduced to 15% opacity.
