Horses have been roughly removed from their source photo and are moved over background to chop.
step 7 of 14
First of horses are chopped and scaled smaller to set into place on the horizon. Their feet will be blended with soft eraser tool into horizon to look as if they are just over the ridge.
step 8 of 14
Several more horses are now chopped and added to others.
step 9 of 14
Now the tepee is added, scaled to several sizes. They will be burned with burn tool to various darknesses, and a couple flipped horizontally just to look different from the others. The poles at their tops were needing to be brushed in after chopping.
step 10 of 14
The old Indian is added in the sky, and after chopping it is scaled to size I wanted. The hair was extended at the front using the smudge tool and the head decorations were also extended with bursh and smudge tools, then edges are merged with soft eraser tool. The whole head is then softened with brightness/contrast tool. Tear is added with the brush tool.
step 11 of 14
One of the women from source photo is chopped, and clothing brushed in to look more like Indian clothes, even a papoose on her back. Most details will be lost later, but I still felt it a good idea to add these details. She will now be scaled smaller, flipped horizontally, and duplicated a couple times. She can be used in front of or behind some of the horses.
step 12 of 14
This older woman from one of the source photos is also chopped, then clothing changed w brush tool. She also will be duplicated and used several times with the horses.
step 13 of 14
Many small changes were made now such as scaling some of the people smaller, and lowering opacity with very soft eraser brush to create more perspective .
step 14 of 14
Finally all layers were 'merged visible' and a reddish brown filter set at 40% is used over the entire scene.
