Landscape used in final version (Istarted with a much sstronger sunset which I felt took away from the boy and shell.)
step 3 of 12
Musician source photo used for boy blowing on shell
step 4 of 12
Chopping is begun on the musician after changing resolution to 120.
step 5 of 12
Shell and figure are added to sunset background then head and arm are removed by duplicating and erasing parts not needed. Head and arm will both be rotated and placed in new positions to look like he is holding and blowing into the shell.
step 6 of 12
Head has been 'reattached' to the body at an angle which looks like he could be leaning slightly backwards to blow into the shell. The arms are also placed so that he could be holding the shell. His hand must be drawn in with the brush tool. Now the shell is chopped and ready to place in his hands.
step 7 of 12
Clothing on the figure is changed now by airbrushing over the pattern in his clothing, and then adding some draping such as a native might have in clothing.
step 8 of 12
Different background with sunset and lake have been added here with color being brought up with brightness/contrast tool.
step 9 of 12
The boat has been chopped from its source and sized smaller. Then it is darkened with brightness/contrast tool and some shadows added in the water.
step 10 of 12
Finally, filters in reddish brown are added at 60% to bring out skin color of boy and just a little pattern on the shell.
step 11 of 12
Nebulae source used over the final filters. Thanks to badastonomy at flckr.com
In an edit, I have cropped background to feature figure better, and also added over the filter a low opacity layer of stars, completely erasing this layer on the figure.
